Sicily
Ahhh Sicily, what a way to kick off a European summer holiday.
The food, the architecture and the beaches did not disappoint.
Now, I’ve been to Italy many times, but Sicily feels different. It feels distilled. It feels how I think Italy would’ve felt in the 60’s.
If you remember hearing about the heatwave that swept across Europe in the Summer of 23’, that’s when we were there. Nearly to the day. We spent a couple of nights in the capital, Palermo, where you can find rich cultural sites and plenty of tourists soaking it all in, us included. Being a heatwave and all, we decided the best move was to find the coldest beers we could and wait out the midday heat. At night the streets come alive with restaurants and bars as far as the eye can see. Local musicians echoing through the streets.
After a couple nights and a few too many refreshments later, we picked up a car and headed east to a town in the hills called Caccamo. Officially founded in 1093…
